Update #8 - Healing George

Dad getting chemo - pre hair cut.

I have not written in a few weeks and wanted to bring everyone up to date.



It seem like time is just flying by......hearing those dreaded words way back in Oct 2009. So much has happened since then.



Dad has had more Chemo and for the most part, not had any bad reactions from it. Somehow, I knew that would be the case. He did shave his head, a #1, but has not lost his facial hair and arm hair and leg hair....and the rest, well, I just don't want to know. His hair is slowly falling out....but not all gone.



Since November, when I last updated, some things have stayed the same. His belly is still giving him problems and is still causing him to heave his guts out every now and again. Remember - this is how we discovered the problem in the first place. His diverticulitis flair ups, we think, are the cause of some of the problem but, he has developed a reflux issue and that can have the same kind of effect. We are currently ruling out one and working to find the cause.



Anyway - last week, when he went in for another chemo treatment, he mentioned this little belly ache problem and instead of chemo, they decided to do another CAT scan to double check things. They don't want to give chemo if you currently need your white blood cells to fight off another infection going on somewhere else. Get it?



SO - yes, there is another abscess, not a big one that requires surgery, but one nonetheless, in his belly. Antibiotics for a week to kill it......but still having pain.....like a 8 or 9 on the charts. THAT is a lot of pain. Sometimes my kids give me that kind of pain. :-) But, not in my belly.



GOOD NEWS ALERT: Because of the pain, they did another CAT scan. The CAT scan revealed that the mass is shrinking. Yay! for shrinking mass. The chemo is working. Thank you Jesus.



One minor annoyance, because it is wrapped around the small intestine, it is squeezing the small intestine too. This is fine, unless you need to pass food thru your system.



SO - Dad has not been able to eat, think clogged drain, and so no eating, not a lot of drinking and no "flushing of the system", (I hope I was gentle with how I put that dad) , back into the hospital today for IVs to rehydrate him, liquid nourishment, and figure out what "drano" will work the best.



I look forward to the day dad will feel normal again. I know this is a valley, and that we grow in our valleys, if we are smart. I know dad is learning from all this as should we all.

I know God is working on dad and for this I am so thankful. I wish is was faster but, I know it is happening on God's schedule. I told you, patience is not always my strong point but, I try.
